Rio de Janeiro, October 16th, 2018

Naval Group and its partners from the Villegagnon Consortium are grateful to have been pre-selected for the Corveta Tamandaré Class (CTC) program. In this strategic program, the Consortium is committed to equipping the Brazilian Navy with the best technology at the best cost.

The Consortium Villegagnon (Naval Group, Construtora Norberto Odebrecht, Odebrecht Engineering Services, shipyard Enseada Indústria Naval and Mectron) has been included by the Brazilian Navy in the short list of the project Corveta Tamandaré Class (CCT). On this occasion, the Consortium reaffirms its commitment to present, in the next phase of the process, a final proposal to fully respond to the needs of the Brazilian Navy and equip the Brazilian fleet with state-of-art technology and systems.

This selection contributes to strengthening the cooperation between Naval Group and the Brazilian Navy, started with the Submarine Development Programme (PROSUB). The submarines are built in Itaguai Construçoes Navais, a Naval Group – Odebrecht subsidiary. The Riachuelo submarine, the first of the S-BR class, will be launched in December. The transfer of technology and the significant involvement of the Brazilian industry are the markers of the PROSUB programme. These assets are also highlighted in the final proposal of the Villegagnon Consortium.

The ship that the Consortium proposes to the Navy is a Gowind corvette, of 3,200 tons with an oceanic capacity. It is a sea-proven ship, with one unit in operation with the Egyptian Navy for over a year, and a second unit, built in Alexandria shipyard through transfer of technology, and launched in September. Two other corvettes are under construction in the same shipyard. Similarly, in Malaysia, the first corvette of the class was built and launched by the local naval shipyard Boustead Naval Shipyard through technology transfer.

During the conception of the final proposal and in accordance with the rules of the selection process, the Villegagnon Consortium wishes to reiterate its commitment to providing the best technology to the Brazilian Navy at the lowest cost, considering maintenance and life cycle costs, so as to ensure that its proposal is an advantageous choice for the CCT Program, a program of the highest strategic importance for both the Navy and Brazil.
