BELGIUM - Software Developer – Naval application - M/F

The Belgian-Dutch remote mine countermeasure replacement program (rMCM) has been awarded in 2019 to Belgium Naval & Robotics, the consortium made up of Naval Group and Exail. This consortium was chosen by the Belgian and Royal Netherlands navies to supply twelve mine countermeasures vessels and a toolbox composed of around 100 drones.
We are looking for a Software Developer to join the engineering team at Naval Group Belgium (Brussels) site. You will contribute to the development of software that meet the functional needs of navies. You have the ability to ensure the features and the performance of the software according to customer specifications.
More specifically, the main responsibilities include:
•         Software development of our software suite with strong emphasis on testing and comprehensive technical documentation.
•         Software architecture definition to meet user specification.
•         Software Integration, Delivery and Deployment.
You will also contribute to:
•         Sub-contractor Coordination on the technical aspects of the projects, ensuring all parties are aligned and working towards the same objectives.
•         Roadmap Definition by contributing to the definition of the project roadmap, outlining the key milestones, deliverables, and timelines.
•         Technical Specification by contributing to the creation of detailed specifications that outline the scope, objectives, and deliverables of the software project.


You will have the opportunity to talk to the department manager and learn more about all your assignments during the recruitment interviews.
 

Profile

You hold a M. Sc. degree in Engineering, Computer Science, or similar area. You have a minimum of 2 years’ experience in software development and computer science.
You have the following skills and knowledge:
•         Proficiency in Java is required. As future projects may involve different programming languages, a broad understanding of various software development technologies will be a significant advantage (Python, Scala, etc.).
•         Experience with DevOps best practices (git, CI/CD, containers, orchestration).
•         General experience in software architecture and design.
•         Knowledge or experience of the agile software development method.
•         Proficiency in English is mandatory.
•         Motivated to solve problems and able to come up with creative solutions.
•         Ability to work independently and take initiative but also function well in a team with good communication skills.
 
The following skills will be seen as an asset:
 
•         Experience in front-end development (Java Script, TypeScript, Angular, React, etc.).
•         Experience with GIS or WMS/WFS protocols and WCS standards.
•         Experience with TDD and static code analysis tools
•         Interest in one of the following topics is a plus: data science, data engineering or robotics.
•         Good knowledge of Dutch/French.
