“My role as Reserve Officer in the French Navy involves providing training for Navy Military Preparation. I supervise youngsters from the ages of 16 to 21, keen on learning more about the French Navy, either to enrol as reservists or to discover the maritime world.
I engage in my reservist activities mainly on Saturdays given that the military internship is spread across a minimum of twelve Saturdays during the academic year, rounded off by five days in the naval base. My mission involves teaching navigation, equivalent to a sailing licence as well as supervising sporting activities. I also monitor and support interns’ studies. I myself enrolled as Reservist in the French Navy during my studies and consider that military preparation is an excellent opportunity to discover this armed force.
My current engagement in the Navy’s operational reserve gives me the chance to serve my country by passing on the knowledge I’ve acquired while pursuing my training in several fields. I work regularly with naval officers at Naval Group and I also join them on board for sea trials. My civil and reservist hats allow me to get an insider’s view of both industrial as well as naval aspects, a very rewarding experience indeed. It’s a constant challenge and a great adventure!
I hope that these Reserve Days contribute to promoting the reserve and its various trades, sparking a few vocations along the way!”
