To expand its panel of suppliers, Naval Group is constantly looking for new partners who share its ambitions and challenges but also its values and commitments in terms of CSR.

Naval Group’s performance in naval defence and marine energy is closely linked to that of its panel of suppliers. This panel represents one of the Group's veritable assets and contributes to its value chain: two-thirds of its revenue comes from the purchasing activity.

Responsible purchasing

In the naval sector, Naval Group is committed to a proactive CSR approach in several areas: social, environmental, ethical and anti-corruption and economic. Sustainably nurturing responsible purchasing practices in order to maintain the ties that unite us with our partners, in France and abroad, reflects this commitment. 
Naval Group is a partner of the GESAT network (grouping of employment assistance establishments and services) and seeks to perpetuate purchases made from companies in the sheltered employment sector, in particular industrial companies.

Commitments to our suppliers

Having signed the responsible relations charter with its suppliers, Naval Group is committed to developing fair and mutually beneficial relations with its suppliers over the long term. 
The group has included them in the “Suppliers and subcontractors relations charter”, which also defines the principles and values to be implemented in terms of ethics and contractual relations. It applies to all group employees who deal with suppliers and subcontractors.

Expectations in return

Naval Group expects its suppliers and subcontractors to comply with the principles of the code of supplier conduct. It sets out the Group’s expectations in terms of governance, compliance, the environment, human rights and social requirements.
The adherence of suppliers and subcontractors to this code of conduct is materialised by the signing of a “commitment document”.

Responsible supplier relations and purchasing

Naval Group’s “Responsible supplier relations and purchasing” label has been renewed each year by the jury of the Mediation des entreprises (French business mediation office) since 2014.

Working alongside SMEs

Naval Group builds long-lasting relationships with its stakeholders. In December 2010, the group affirmed this commitment by signing the inter-company charter of best practices between major contractors and SMEs. 
The group continues to implement these best practices as part of its responsible purchasing development approach.

Collaborative innovation

By signing France's charter of public enterprises in favour of the emergence and development of innovative SMEs, the group, like the other signatories, has made a commitment to several points and, in particular, to ensure that these innovative SMEs have simple access to its areas of innovation and to support them in their projects.
To deliver excellence to our customers in the areas of naval defence and energy, Naval Group relies on ambitious and collaborative innovation. The group is particularly interested in SMEs that develop technologies and skills in some thirty target areas based on our 6 R&D pillars: Smart naval force, Invulnerable ship, Smart ship, Blue ship, Smart availability, Smart industry

Mediation

The group pays particular attention to ensuring that the companies listed in its supplier panel, and in particular SMEs, are treated fairly.
If this were not the case and to enable companies to easily speak out about any matters, an SME mediator has been appointed to ensure a favourable and satisfactory outcome for all.

Managing supplier relations

Naval Group is continuously watching for new partners that can open up potential in terms of operational and economic performance improvement, innovation and international development to meet local production challenges. The Naval Group supplier panel is structured according to the impact of its suppliers on its performance or development. For each supplier in the panel, a lead buyer manages the relationship for the group.

From pre-selection to supplier development

    1. Pre-selection

    Naval Group identifies suppliers based on market monitoring and spontaneous supplier applications.
    The potential for collaboration is then assessed with respect to Naval Group's needs in order to preselect suppliers.

    2. Qualification

    The pre-selected supplier completes a pre-qualification file that allows Naval Group to validate the supplier's ability to meet its requirements (quality, technical, industrial capacity, etc.)
    A technical and/or quality audit may complete the qualification.

    3. Assessment

    Supplier performance is analysed annually according to group criteria (technical, quality, costs, lead times, relations, etc.)
    If this performance measurement exhibits shortcomings, areas for progress can be identified.

    Development

    Naval Group identifies the suppliers to be developed according to their importance, their criticality for its activities and the result of their annual assessment.
    Naval Group supports its suppliers in this approach, set out in development and quality improvement plans.
