04 December 2018 Defense Naval International Innovation Communication Press release

From 4th to 7th December 2018, Naval Group participates to Exponaval 2018 in Concón Valparaiso, Chili. Naval Group will showcase its state-of-art innovations created for modern navies. Come and meet us at booth 316 Naval Group is one of the rare players in the naval industry to have the capacity to design, build, service and upgrade surface combatants as well as submarines.  It is one of the few shipbuilding system manufacturers in the world able to offer full armed ships with their combat systems and equipment necessary for their engagement in theatres of operations. Naval Group also has a unique experience of successful technology transfers for the construction of both surface ships and submarines. Egypt launched its first Gowind® built in Egypt on September 6, 2018 and Brazil will launch its first Brazilian built Scorpene® submarine in December while India already operates its own submarines at sea.

The Gowind design

The Gowind® corvette meets the challenges faced by navies in changing environments and offers a complete, multi-mission combat ship for sovereignty operations, fight against illicit trafficking or maritime protection. The Gowind® corvette is a concentrate of the latest technological advances developed and mastered by Naval Group in naval defence. Its sea proven stealth design offers the operational assets of a frigate. It integrates the latest generation of combat systems developed by Naval Group, SETIS®, the "Panoramic Sensors and Intelligence Module (PSIM)" - a combination of the integrated mast with its various sensors and the Operational Centre. It is noticeable that nine of the 10 Gowind® vessels contracted successively with Malaysia and Egypt are to be built in Egypt and Malaysia, on the basis of technology transfer successfully performed by Naval Group.

Belh@rra frigate

Belharra is the new combat ship for naval supremacy and crisis management designed for navies looking for a compact frigate able to perform a large range of missions stand-alone or within a task force either for high sea duration missions as for shallow water operation in congested and contested operational environment. As the first digital frigate, Belharra features high level capabilities in anti-air, anti-surface, anti-submarine and asymmetric warfare domains, taking into account French Navy operational legacy acquired in wartime situation.

OPV 90

With the OPV 90, client navies will acquire a comprehensive and reliable capability to fulfil a large spectrum of civilian and military missions, including maritime traffic control, protection of offshore resources, search and rescue, fisheries and marine environments, humanitarian assistance and fight against illegal trafficking L’Adroit, the first-of-class of Naval Group’s OPV 90, has been in service with the French Navy since 2012. OPV 90 introduces a host of innovations. The ship’s surveillance capabilities rely on an innovative architecture with a single mast and a 140-sq.m bridge offering panoramic visibility, a defining feature for an operational surface vessel. The dome atop the enclosed mast houses the entire sensor suite. From the bridge, watch officers have a 360° view from the ship’s hull to the horizon without the least obstruction or blind spot. The compact topside leaves ample space for a 5- to 10-tonne helicopter or an unmanned aerial vehicle, while the stern ramp can launch and recover two rigid hull inflatable boats (RHIBs) simultaneously in less than five minutes.

Mistral-class LHD

Naval Group contributes to enable the naval sovereignty of its customers through long-term partnerships, industrial cooperation and through-life support services, proven by strong credentials. Mistral-class LHD is a multipurpose Power and Force Projection asset designed to command and achieve high intensity amphibious and special joint operations, as well as no-combatant assistance operations with the highest level of efficiency.

Scorpene® submarine

This submarine is capable of carrying out all types of missions, such as surface vessel warfare, anti-submarine warfare, long-range strikes, special operations or intelligence gathering. It is extremely stealthy and fast, and is equipped by weapon launching tubes, and various weapons (torpedoes, missiles, mines). Over fourteen Scorpene submarines were sold by Naval Group to foreign customers.

Naval Group services: a global offer suited to clients’ needs

To better respond to its clients’ needs, Naval Group is present across the entire vessel life-cycle, from the design phase to the construction phase and all the way through to maintenance and dismantling. Services activities represent 1/3 of the Group's revenues. Naval Group scope of activities includes modernization of surface ships and submarines for the French navy and international clients. 4500 employees of Naval Group are working in in-service-support and modernization programs. It is really a specificity of the company. For instance, Naval Group performed a mid-life up-grade of the Aircraft carrier Charles De Gaulle and second generation SSBN (IAM51). The complete up-grade of the Charles De Gaulle, a 40 00 tons ship, was finalized in only 18 months. Thanks to this expertise, gained from national programs, Naval Group developed a specific expertise which allows us to propose modernization of foreign design submarines (non Naval Group). Naval Group already modernized with success more than 10 submarines in several countries.   Dora GAUER Mob. +33 (0)7 72 42 48 96 dora.gauer@naval-group.com
