Naval Group sets sights for success at the 75th Rolex Sydney Hobart Yacht Race

The Australian-French crew is preparing for a competitive finish against 170-strong fleet.

Naval Group, a world leader in naval defence, will soon launch its second bid for success in the 75th annual Rolex Sydney Hobart Yacht Race. While the boat is a relative new-comer among the 170-strong international fleet, skipper Sean Langman, Managing Director of Noakes Group and one of Australia’s most experienced offshore yachtsmen, is confident the French-Australian crew can work as a cohesive and efficient team to improve last year performance.

Continuing as skipper of the 65-foot Naval Group for a second year, the anniversary race will mark Sean’s 29th Rolex Sydney Hobart. His team will again be made up of Australian and French representatives from Naval Group and Naval Group Australia. Declaring the 2018 race the easiest of his ‘Hobarts’, Sean is ready to put his hand-selected team – with close to 100 Hobart races between them – to the test once again in what’s widely regarded as one of the world’s toughest bluewater events.

Sean has learnt over the years the 628 nautical mile Rolex Sydney Hobart is anybody’s race. “This competition is the ultimate test of skill, camaraderie and passion. I’m proud to be sailing with such a talented and diverse crew for my 29th Sydney Hobart Yacht Race. We are aiming for a strong finish with a robust crew and superior vessel.”

François Romanet, CEO Naval Group Pacific said “Naval Group’s foundation lays in collaboration and innovation, and the Rolex Sydney Hobart Yacht Race is a prime example of bringing together the best people in their field to work towards a common goal. We wish our crew a smooth and safe sail to Hobart this year.”

John Davis, CEO Naval Group Australia said “This opportunity represents the coming together of individuals from our teams in France and Australia to work together to achieve a common goal. It also provides us with an opportunity to acknowledge and celebrate the enduring and important relationship between our two countries.”

Originally an RP65 called Moneypenny, Naval Group was launched in 2008 and the yacht has raced in both Australian and international races of note.

Naval Group’s journey from Sydney to Hobart, starting at 1pm from Sydney Harbour on December 26, can be followed on Facebook and Twitter.
